Aveiro is a Portuguese city, capital of the district of Aveiro in the sub-Region of Aveiro, in the former coastal province belonging to the Centro region. The city has 62,653 inhabitants (2021) and is the seat of the Municipality of Aveiro, which has a total area of 197.58 km2, 80,978 inhabitants in 2021 and a population density of 410 inhabitants/km2, subdivided into 10 parishes.
The municipality is limited to the north by the municipality of Murtosa, to the northeast by Albergaria-a-Velha, to the east by Águeda, to the south by Oliveira do Bairro, to the southwest by Vagos and Ílhavo and to the west by the Atlantic Ocean,
The city is an important urban, port, railway, university and tourist center. It is located approximately 63 km northwest of Coimbra, 70 km south of Porto, and 255 km from Lisbon.
